I have trekked with Santaman on the last 8 out of my 9 treks. He's tops both professionally and and as human being in general. Appart from his knowledge and skills as a guide (and organiser too, being able to organise your accomodation, local transport, other logistics, etc), Santaman is an excellent trekking companion, intuitive, yet not intrusive. Even though I am going to the Annapurna region for the 4 time, and know the place fairly well, I find it rewarding to have him on trek with me. He is very knowledgeable about Nepali culture & religions, including old animist Bon stuff..., politics, world events. I have witnessed him having to make safety decisions under pressure (my son got sudden altitude sickness on a trek when he was 10 years old, and it was already dark when Santaman run for more than an hour downhill with him to save his life...).
Santaman treats his porters very well. In his teen years he has been a high-altitude porter (on some Everest expeditions and other high peaks). Presently he works with Rame and others making coopeartive team, (I have trekked with them too, also an excellent guides) whom he grooms as his junior partner. Rame and others have already guided a number of treks by themselves.
" ......Presently he works with Rame and others, forming a good coopeartive team. I have trekked with the other team memmbers too, they are also an excellent guides. Santaman grooms Rame and others as his junior partners. All members of the team have already guided a number of treks by themselves. I recommend them without reservations. Feel free to email me if you need more details."

We would like to express our greatest appreciation to our wonderful guide, Mr. Santaman Tamang & the rest of his crew for the marvelous 27 days Gokyo, Chola Pass, Kala Pattar & EBC trek in Nepal.
They were extremely well experience, supportive, responsible, helpful and friendly. We were all well taken care off in ensuring our safety, especially our health & physical condition during the whole journey.
Our guide, Santaman was very experience & knowledgeable. He took every detail seriously in planning & organizing our trip. He was always helpful in answering our requests & suggestions.
Surja, his assistant, was always there for us in making sure that everything is in order before we start the trek, checking on our pace and also making sure that no one left behind at the pee-stop.
The trek was truly an experience of a lifetime & the wonderful memories will stay with us forever. We were very blessed & glad to have chosen Santaman & gang; who've helped us to achieve our life-long dream.
We truly recommend the professional service & excellent care of Santaman & Team; our friends of the Himalayas.

"I had been to Everest Base Camp twice with Santaman Tamang as guide in March-April 2001 and March- April 2003. All my team mates on both the occasions found Santaman and his team as hardworking, lively intelligent and committed guides. We also interacted with lot of other tourists and their experience with their own guides. I can say for sure that Santaman stands apart from any regular guide. All 5 of us who had been to EBC in 2001 and 2003, recommend Santaman unanimously and wholeheartedly. I am sure anyone who chooses him would enjoy their trip and would be back home safely and successfully"

Even before traveling to Nepal and meeting him, I was confident that I would be with one of the best trekking guides in Nepal.
He was so friendly and supportive in his e-mails that made me think I had known him since long time ago. And now, after having two trips to Nepal - in October 2003 and October 2004, for trekking in Everest region and Annapurna reign, respectively - I am truly glad of having a very close Nepali friend: Santaman Tamang! He is an intelligent, knowledgeable and confident intellectual who spends a part of his life in mountains and guides tourists; he teaches them lessons about Nepal and asks them to teach him lessons from other cultures! He is dynamic and full of life! That is why he is a very good companion and an expert guide with good knowledge about different regions and cultures of Nepal. He is very serious about his job and in critical moments he can always handle everything and let you worry about nothing; he knows what to do and he does what he has to do! At the same time, he can be the funniest person in the whole world with the naughtiness of a child and can make you laugh for hours!
If I decide to travel to Nepal once again, one of its main reasons would be to meet Santaman, my dear Nepali friend, whom I start to miss as soon as I leave Katmandu!
He and his team - a group of friendly and helpful people - will never let you down. They are kind, caring and fun to be with! In trying to provide their guests with the best they can, they work hard without letting anyone notice, because they always smile! The memory of their kindness and supports and the image of their smile is the best souvenir you bring home to remember the sacred land of Himalaya, with all its magnificent sceneries and exotic cultures!

By Nepal discussion site we came at a site with recommended guides in Nepal. We made the decision after reading the good references.
We were not disappointed. The Jiri trek in combination with the Goyko Lakes, the Cho-Lapas and Kala Patar was very well managed by them. And it was nice to see that there was not a guide and a few porters, but it was a team. The porters were sometimes a guide and who was the guide, he always carried a part of the luggage. Lal, Sagar and Shera gave us a feeling of safety and confidence. They look after us during the day and changed the plans when there were problems. It is a very good choiche to go with this trekkingagent!!!

We traveled from a far to the land of the Himalayas, to the sacred Khumbu region and Kalapattar - our destination. On the first day we did not talk much; Santaman told stories of the mountains, legends and history... He is very
knowledgeable and funny too. As the days pass, we trek, crossed rivers, we ate, shared jokes, played cards, exchanged laughs, sang song, learned a few Nepali words, tasted local wine, had lots of momo, shared our lives and became friends. Nepal in itself is a very beautiful country.... Even more so when you find a FRIEND who so happens to know the mountains and its trails and will walk with you and be your guide. We were fortunate to have chosen Santaman as our guide for it gave us an insight of the Himalayas and its people. What amazes me most beyond Santaman's professionalism and expertise is the friendship and relationship he has with his team, the porters and the village people. Beyond being a superb guide, Santaman is also a good leader and most of all a friend.Mula sebagai pelanggan, kekal sebagai rakan.... Itulah pengalaman kami apabila kami memilih Santaman sebagai pemandu trek kami.

I have now trekked twice with Santaman in the Annapurna region, most recently in November/ December 2004 and was very happy with his services - both on the trek and the arrangements he took care of before and after the trek. Santaman goes to extraordinary lengths to make the trek as enjoyable as possible. He is very knowledgeable about the areas we were trekking through and about Nepalese culture in general, and was keen to share that knowledge. He took exceptionally good care of us throughout the trek - in selecting good lodges, in making sure everyone was healthy, in making arrangements for one of the group who became ill and unable to continue, and in advising on the gear we needed. I can recommend him without reservation, and look forward to trekking with Santaman again in 2006. I am happy to answer any questions you have and can be contact me in given address.
